Woman beaten on wedding night and story makes headlines. A British woman by the name of Amy Dawson, was beaten by her new husband and the father of her child on their wedding night, because he was unable to remove her gown. The abusive groom, Gavin Golightly, told police that he was drugged during the reception and has no recollection of the incident.
The headline “woman beaten wedding night” has gone viral. Amy Dawson recently sat down with several British media outlets to share her heartbreaking story. In August of 2014, Amy Dawson wed her longtime boyfriend and the father of their baby in a stunning ceremony at St Mary’s Church in West Rainton, County Durham.
After saying “I do” and dancing the night away, Amy Dawson and Gavin Golightly left for the Beamish Hall, a country hotel. According to the bride, an argument rapidly broke out after Golightly was unable to remove her wedding dress.
The woman stated that her 29-year-old then-husband sat on her and punched her numerous times in the face. The 22-year-old lady explained:
“When he lashed out at me on my wedding night, I thought I was going to die. I was terrifed. He looked like he was going to kill me.”
She went on to add that her husband left the room and returned to attack her a second time. Amy Dawson, an accountancy student, said that she eventually escaped and asked a hotel porter to call the authorities. Dawson told the Mirror:
“After the attack, he left the room and I tried to escape, but he came back in and continued to beat me. Eventually, I escaped and found a hotel porter, who called the police. It was such a lovely day, and I was devastated it ended the way it did. It was a huge celebration full of friends and family, and I thought it would have been the fresh start we needed.”
Miss Dawson, who suffered a cut above her left eyebrow and some bruises to her face and chest area, has since filed for divorce. The woman beaten on her wedding night has since confessed that her partner was abusive in the past, but was sometimes caring – which is why she married him anyway.
Appearing in court, Gavin Golightly claimed that he was drugged at the reception and can not remember beating his new wife. Court documents showed:
“The defendant said he has no recollection of the event, adding that he must have had his drink spiked. He remembers waking up in a hotel room and said he does not get angry when he takes drugs.”
A judge slapped Golightly with 24 months community order with the requirement of supervision. Golightly was also hit with a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting Ms Dawson directly or indirectly.
