Wentworth Miller says coming out as gay makes him feel more fully expressed. Talking to Detail magazine, Wentworth Miller confesses that a small group of friends and family knew that he was homosexual since he was in his 20s and adds that he does not feel that he mislead his female fans by playing straight men because everyone knows actors are not the characters they play on screen. Since coming out, Wentworth Miller has folded his acting suit to be a full time screenwriter.
Wentworth Miller opens up about coming out in the latest issue of Detail magazine.
The former “Prison Break” actor tells the publication that after sharing his sexual orientation with the world he feels better understood.
He adds that in 2009 he realized that he was one person in private and someone completely different in public which was wrong, because by pretending to be a heterosexual man he never fought for the LGBT related issues.
Wentworth Miller further explains that his attraction for men was not really a secret to those near and dear to him. Miller reveals:
“I feel more fully expressed. After Prison Break, I came to grips with the fact that my public persona was in misalignment with how I actually felt. I was out to a handful of people in my twenties, and once I hit 30, I was out to family and friends. But professionally, I was feeding a fantasy. I created this air of “We don’t address that thing.””
Asked if he was being dishonest to his millions of female fans who believed that he was a straight man, the 42-year-old star replies by saying that movie lovers know that there is a difference between their idols and the characters they portray on screen.
In the full interview, Miller shares that he was tired of the makeup, the hectic workout and work schedule which is why he stopped acting to become a screenwriter.
He also talks battling depression for most of his adult life and his new movie “The Loft.”
