Vicki Gunvalson’s mother died, and she received the horrible news as Bravo cameras rolled on. Gunvalson, who stars in The Real Housewives of Orange County, learned of her mom, Joanne Steinmetz’s death, back in February and many are baffled by the fact that she decided to not only appear on camera as she was getting the news, but also let the network air the emotional segment.
Vicki Gunvalson‘s mother died at the age of 83 on February 5, and now America is discovering how the reality star, author, and businesswoman learned the heartbreaking news.
Tuesday’s episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County featured the cast having fun at a fancy party thrown by Shannon Beador. While the group of friends were playing games and sipping wine, Vicki Gunvalson moved to the kitchen to take a phone call from her daughter, Briana.
A confused and distraught Gunvalson told her daughter that she did not understand what was happening. With tears running down her eyes, Gunvalson asked:
“What do you mean? What happened? No!.Briana, I can’t do this.Oh, my God. I don’t want to believe this.”
After realizing that her mother, Joanne Steinmetz, had died, Vicki Gunvalson crumbled to the floor and cried. The reality star screamed and demanded an explanation:
“How could she die? She wasn’t sick at all …. Damn it.”
Beador rushed to her friend’s side, and she yelled:
“My mom just died. How could she die?, I just talked to her this morning.”
Beador presented her condolences:
“Oh my God. I’m so sorry.”
Tamra Judge stepped in to tell Beador that there is nothing she could say in a situation like this one that could make Gunvalson feel better. Judge explained:
“There’s nothing you can do to make her feel better.”
Vicki Gunvalson kept screaming and asked for her mother to come back. She confessed:
“I just want my mom back. I want my mom. I have to go see my mom right now. I want to be with my mom. I need her every day. I need her so bad. Who’s going to worry about me? I don’t have parents now. I need my parents. I need my mom.”
Gunvalson called her brother, Billy, who explained what happened. The man revealed:
“I ran upstairs and tried to shake her to wake up, but she didn’t wake up. I’ve lost my best friend.”
Fans are a bit confused by the fact that Gunvalson let Bravo film such a personal and emotional moment in her life. She replied by saying that she has not regrets:
“This is not a moment that I feel, as of right now, that I regret, because statistically people are going to lose their parents, right? We’re going to be alive when our parents die, statistically.I don’t blame Bravo, I don’t blame [RHOC’s production company] Evolution, I don’t blame anybody — it’s my life.”
She also took to Twitter talk about the episode:
“For those of you that have seen tonight’s episode, I wrote more about it in my Bravo Blog. Thank you for all the love & support.”
What are your thoughts on Vicki Gunvalson’s decision?
I wanted to take a second to thank each and every one of you for your kind words this evening. They mean the world to me! <3
