An unnamed teenager, suffering from mental illness, pretended to be an OB/GYN doctor at Saint Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida for several weeks. The police were called after the teen was caught wearing a coat inside an exam room with a patient. The teen was not arrested after his mother explained to officials that he was off his medication.
Teen posed as doctor at a hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida and story makes headline. On Tuesday, police officers were called to Saint Mary’s Medical Center, after a patient discovered the person examining her was really a 17-year-old boy pretending to be a doctor.
The patient, who did not wish to reveal her identity, told police the teen wore a lab coat that had St. Mary’s logo and “anesthesiology” stitched on the front, and claimed that his name was Dr Robinson. The fake doctor also sported a mask on his face and a stethoscope around his neck.
According to a security guard, the teen posed as a doctor for at least one month. The unstable teenager told the guard that he had been a physician for numerous years. For about four weeks, staff members stated that they saw the teen at the medical center’s OB/GYN office and walking around secured areas of the hospital.
Dr. Sebastian Kent, the real OB/GYN at St. Mary’s Medical Center, said he met the teen on numerous occasions and just assumed that he was a prodigy. Dr. Kent explained:
“The first thing I thought was I am getting, I am really getting old because these young doctors look younger every year.”
The “Florida teen posed as doctor” story has gone viral, which prompted officials at the hospital to issue the following statement:
“The individual never had contact with any hospital patients and did not gain access to any patient care areas of the hospital at any time. The hospital immediately notified local authorities, who took the individual into custody, and we are cooperating with their ongoing investigation.”
The teen’s mother confessed to officials that he is suffering from an undisclosed illness, is under the care of a doctor, and is not taking his medication. All parties decided not to press charges or arrest the teen.
