Syrian Air Force hits ISIS bakery killing over 25 people. On Saturday, the Syrian Air Force attacked a bakery run by ISIS jihadists in the city of Raqqa, near Damascus where they killed nine members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and sixteen civilians. An attack was also launched on a camp used by the terrorist group.
On September 6th, Syrian Air Force launched 8 airstrikes on the Islamic State (ISIS) in Ar-Raqqah or Raqqa.
Raqqa is currently controlled by ISIS activists who have made the city their headquarters.
When ISIS made Raqqa its main Syrian foothold, earlier this year, it also seized numerous schools, courthouses, banks, mosques and stores.
The barbaric group known for beheading two American journalists also took over water, electricity companies and have their fighters controlling traffic.
The defense brigades targeted a small bakery run by the Sunni jihadist group in Raqqa, which is 400 km northeast of Damascus.
According to Rami Abdulrahman, from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, more than 25 people were killed during the attack.
Abdulrahman stated, the missile smashed into the window of the bakery, killing mostly civilians who were purchasing pastries or having lunch.
Thus far, eight out of the sixteen deceased citizens have been identified by relatives. The eight people were members of one family who were sharing snacks at the bakery.
It has not been possible to confirm the reports of the air strikes or the death toll because President Bashar al-Assad has banned reporters from covering the war in Syria.
The Syrian Observatory also claimed that Syrian Air Force bombed one major training camp containing weapons and ammunition in the city on Friday.
At least six ISIS fighters were killed in that air raid. A report from Reuters, revealed that during the 2-day bombing raid in the eastern part of the country more than 53 people were killed.
The toll is expected to rise according to activists on the ground. Other strikes by Assad’s military destroyed a government finance building that ISIS used as its headquarters.
Buildings used as a jail and an Islamic court were also shredded.
The Syrian government decided to take military action against ISIS after losing hundreds of soldiers, firefighters and first aid responders.
The Syrian Air Force is also hunting ISIS members in the city of Aleppo.
This weekend, military helicopters dropped explosives-filled barrels killing 15 people.
