A student falls from the Four Seasons’ 9th floor, dies after a failed attempt to scale the facade of the hotel to take pictures with a friend, and the story has gone viral. According to officials, Connor Cummings, aged 24, a University of Massachusetts Amherst student, died at the scene of the accident.
Connor Cummings, a college student, falls from the Four Seasons’ 9th story and dies, according to a statement issued by the New York City Police Department. On Wednesday, at around 11 PM, Mr. Cummings, of New Jersey, took the decision to scale the facade of the Four Seasons Hotel in Midtown.
The college student and an unidentified friend were apparently climbing to the top of the hotel under the pouring rain to take pictures of the Manhattan skyline. The New Jersey man managed to make it on the ninth floor of the 52-story hotel, lost his footing while climbing back into an interior shaft and fell onto a catwalk below. Police and emergency workers were called, and the student was pronounced dead at the scene. The University of Massachusetts Amherst student and his pal were not staying at the hotel. According to a preliminary investigation, the two …managed to get access to “some sort of scaffolding” on the outside of the E. 57th Street building around 11:15 p.m..
The Four Seasons said in a statement it was saddened by Cummings’ death and was cooperating with authorities and added:
“The safety and security of our guests, patrons and employees is a top priority for us. Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased and we extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to them.”
UMass Amherst also issued a statement in the wake of student’s death:
“Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Connor Cummings, a UMass Amherst student who died tragically in New York. Connor was a sophomore psychology major and a member of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity, Gamma chapter.”
