Sherri Shepherd left “The View” on Monday in a very big emotional way. Shepherd used the opportunity to thank those who always supported her, she also addressed some of the critics she received in the past seven seasons she spent on the talk show.
Sherri Shepherd has put “The View” behind her for good on August 11. The comedian who announced that she was leaving the program in June was emotional, funny and charming for her last episode after seven years.
Shepherd was surrounded by her 9-year-old son Jeffrey and good friend comedian Arsenio Hall for her last day on “The View.” The The Think Like a Man actress spoke at length about her experience on the talk show.
She shared the doubts she had during her first three years and how her co-host Whoopi Goldberg helped her navigate a difficult moment. The mother-of-one said:
“I’m so extremely and profoundly grateful. This has been one of the best seven years of my life. I tell people, step out of the fear, because I didn’t want to take this job, because I’m not a prosecutor, I don’t know anything. … I have to say my boss, Barbara Walters, pushed me. I cried in my dressing room for three years saying, ‘What am I doing on this table?'”
Shepherd explained by being on “The View,” she found a family in people like Jenny McCarthy and former co-hosts Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. The female comedian took a small swipe at people like Bill Maher and Fox News Channel’s Bill O’Reilly who famously called her a “pinhead.” This part of her goodbye lacked in strength because she voiced their attacks without refuting them in a clear fashion.
Sherri Shepherd was at her best when she used her self-deprecating humor to address her messy divorces. For example, she told the cheering crowd at the end:
“Let’s just say I’m happy that Barbara Walters and Bill Geddes were better at picking co-hosts for this show than I was at choosing my husbands.”
Fans should not worry too much about her future, the actress is heading to Broadway next month for Cinderella.
Jenny McCarthy who is also exiting the program was more composed.
Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O’Donnell will be co-hosts of a new season of “The View” starting in September.
Two other co-hosts that are yet-to-be named are expected to join them on the coveted panel.
Will you be watching?
I will not watch the show when Sherrie is gone. She is a 100 percent asset to this show. When Elizabeth left, very disappointed with Barbara and Getty. Good luck with Rosie, you will need it.
