A Sentinel police chief by the name of Louis Ross, was shot at least three times as he was investigating a bomb threat. Sentinel Police Chief Louis Ross, who was saved by his bulletproof vest, has announced that they will not arrest the suspect named Dallas Horton because he mistook the officers for burglars.
A Sentinel police chief is alive this evening thanks to his borrowed bulletproof vest. In a statement issued by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, it was revealed that on Thursday at around 6:00 AM, Sentinel Police Chief Louis Ross was shot numerous times as he was responding to a bomb threat.
It was claimed that a man by the name of Dallas Horton, had several explosives and had plans to detonate them at a school. Sentinel Police Chief Louis Ross, who was accompanied by two Washita County deputies along with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol bomb squad, entered Horton’s home located on the 200 block of S. 4th Street, after several 911 calls were made around 4:00 a.m.
The Sentinel Police Chief, who has less than a year on the job, broke down the front door of the home, searched the living room and kitchen, and found nothing. But when he entered one of the bedrooms, he was greeted by Horton who shot him four times.
Mr Ross was shot three times in the chest and once in the forearm. The law enforcer was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was treated for injuries and later released. He is set to see an orthopedic surgeon soon who will operate on his forearm.
Believe it or not, despite the fact that the Sentinel Police Chief was investigating a bomb threat, he arrived at the home sans bulletproof vest and made the life changing decision to borrow from one his officers just seconds before they stormed in. Sentinel Mayor Sam Dlugonski talked about how lucky the Sentinel police chief is by telling local media:
“He would be dead if it wasn’t for the bullet-proof vest. Ross had some numbness in his hand, but he was in good spirits.”
The 29-year-old bomb threat suspect and his girlfriend, were taken to the police headquarter, questioned for several hours, and later released. It was determined that he never had intentions to shoot the cops, he sincerely believed that his home was being burglarized. No bombs were found and firearms were removed from the man’s residence.
A neighbor, David Delk, explained that he was not surprised that Horton was making bombs, because he always dressed in black and never spoke to anyone. According to Delk, Horton has a passion for guns and seems to live on the edge. Delk said:
“He wasn’t all that friendly, he has signs near his home that read Warning: zombies inside enter at your own risk and Certified zombie killer.”
Police found seven guns at the home. They also discovered that the man had posted statements about ISIS and Syria on social media. But Dlugonski, who has known Horton since he was a child, is certain that he is not a terrorist.
Schools in Sentinel were closed on Thursday as a precautionary measure.
