Selfie sticks at concerts, no more. This week, the organizers of the Coachella and Lollapalooza music festivals announced that they are banning selfie sticks or Narsisstics at the festivals. Organizers say they are prohibiting selfie sticks because they encourage festival goers to illegally record the festivals’ performances.
Selfie sticks at concerts are now prohibited. In the upcoming Coachella and Lollapalooza festivals, there will be music, screaming fans and too much beer – but there won’t be any selfie sticks.
In a statement issued by the organizers of Lollapalooza on their official website, it has been revealed that they are banning a long list of items including GoPro attachments like sticks, selfie sticks, and monopods, according to The Inquisitr.
According to the organizers of the Chicago music festival, selfie sticks make it difficult for festivalgoers to view performances. Another reason to outlaw selfie sticks is because they enable the owner to illegally record artists at the event. Lollapalooza is scheduled for July 31st through August 2nd at Grant Park.
On Coachella’s website, it states that selfie sticks, Narsisstics along with blankets, chairs, flags, hula hoops, markers, stuffed animals, and umbrellas are not allowed. While Selfie sticks have become very popular, (even President Barack Obama used one), many venues have banned them.
In England, a rep for the O2 Arena asked people to “please leave the selfie stick at home.” While at the Wembley Arena, those who show up with selfie sticks, will be refused entry to the venue. Museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Gardens in Washington, D.C., have also made it known that no selfie stick is allowed.
Some are angry, and others are thrilled about the selfie stick ban. Here are few tweets on the matter:
“No selfie sticks allowed at Coachella. Excuse me while I cry a million tears.”
“Ridiculous: Music festivals Coachella and Lollapalooza have banned selfie sticks.”
What are your thoughts on the selfie stick ban?
