Selena Gomez is set to receive the Ultimate Choice Award at Sunday’s 2014 Teen Choice Awards. This award usually goes to someone who has done quite a bit in the entertainment world. Gomez will join previous winners like Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.
Selena Gomez’s Ultimate Choice Award is the coronation of a year marked by a lot of professional successes and personal turmoil. Gomez’s album Stars Dance debuted at number 1 in the US, her songs “Come & Get It” and “Slow Down” were big hits in North America.
The 22-year-old’s movie career also bloomed with films like Spring Breakers and Getaway. Gomez’s on-and-off romance with teen pop music sensation Justin Bieber pushed her name to new celebrity status heights. The fame came at a heavy price for the entertainer, who went to rehab earlier this year for an undisclosed situation.
By giving the Behaving Badly actress, its ultimate surfboard, the Teen Choice Awards are showing love to one of the most complete entertainment packages in the industry today.
It will be interesting to see what Gomez will say after receiving her award, 2013’s winner Ashton Kutcher gave a remarkable speech about the value of hard work and being smart. Conservatives loved the message and few others were confused about the choice of venue for so much depth.
The Monte Carlo star will have to find the right balance between being inspiring and funny. The perfect speech for the Ultimate Choice Award has to be serious and yet engaging. This is a young crowd after all.
Demi Lovato, Jason Derulo and Rita Ora are listed as performers for the big summer event. Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande are among those who will be handling out awards tonight.
Swift will probably be celebrating with Gomez after the show, since the two friends have reconciled after months of feuding over Gomez former boyfriend Bieber. The “I Knew You Were Trouble” singer never approved of Gomez’s relationship with the “Baby” artist.
The breakup has made it possible for the longtime friends to reunite and fans could not be happier.
The 2014 Teen Choice Awards will air on FOX at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
