Sarah Hyland breaks her silence on Matt Prokop, her former boyfriend, who allegedly abused her several times throughout their five-year romance. Hyland spoke about Prokop for the first time during an appearance on The Meredith Vieira Show.
Sarah Hyland broke her silence on Matt Prokop, the alleged abusive ex-lover, who terrorized her and her pets for more than five years.
On Tuesday, Hyland was a guest on The Meredith Vieira Show, where she spoke about the events that lead to her getting a restraining order against Prokop.
Meredith Vieira opened the conversation by letting the Modern Family star know that she too, was a victim of domestic abuse.
Vieira explained that she was abused by a former boyfriend in her twenties, and added that by talking about the horrible events she went through, she is hoping to help other women.
Sarah Hyland took another approach, instead of giving details about what Matt Prokop did to her, she explained how strong and determined the abuse made her.
Hyland quoted a passage from “Do not go gentle into that good night” composed by Welsh poet, Dylan Thomas in 1951 for his dying father.
She also spoke about a quote lifted from “A Servant to Servants” written in 1914 by poet, Robert Lee Frost. Sarah Hyland used poetry to break her silence on Matt Prokop, the young woman said:
“One is a Dylan Thomas poem: ‘Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light,’ which is one of my favorite poems. It just strikes a chord in me; and also Robert Frost: ‘The only way out is through.'”
Miss Hyland added:
“People have to go through things in order to become the person they are today, and that’s that.”
Matt Prokop and Sarah Hyland met in 2008 while auditioning for High School Musical 3: Senior Year and started dating.
The pair starred in the Disney Channel film, Geek Charming in 2011. In early October, Hyland obtained a three-year restraining order against Prokop, who allegedly abused her verbally and physically.
Court documents showed that in May, Matt Prokop pinned her against a car, called her the C-Word, choked her, pushed her and threatened her life.
He also sent her cruel messages and threatened to kill himself and her dogs.
