Rob Lowe sends controversial tweet and drama ensues. The actor is learning the hard way that some things are best left unsaid on Twitter. While most people were busy sending prayers and positive thoughts to Paris, Mr. Lowe decided to mock French President François Hollande’s decision to seal the borders after the deadly attacks.
Rob Lowe is being blasted for a series of critical tweets he published after the Paris terrorist attacks. Upon learning that 129 people were killed by suicide bombers and shooters in France, most people rushed to social media to spread love, but Rob Lowe had another idea.
Lowe mocked François Hollande‘s announcement that he was declaring a state of emergency in France and, therefore, closing the country’s borders. Lowe, who might have been angered by the fact that France had decided to take in Syrian refugees, wrote:
“Oh, NOW France closes its borders. #Hollande.”
The Grinder was not done with Mr. Hollande – he went on to joke about the speech that the president delivered after suicide bombers rocked the French capital. The star tweeted:
“This is either the worst translation of an important speech ever, or one of the worst ever given.”
The tweets went viral, and the backlash came quickly and it was violent. A commenter called Lowe, a scum while another claimed his remarks were “low,” “insensitive,” “distasteful” and “heartless.” One person tweeted:
“You are making the world worse.Go away.”
Another more or less told him to be pretty, but please shut up. The individual wrote:
“Gosh. Handsome and stupid too.”
However, one person, who disagrees with France’s immigration policies, showed support to Lowe by posting:
“Lowe speaks truth, and offended clueless liberals are outraged.”
The actor later returned to Twitter where he failed to apologize and instead claimed he was misunderstood. He said:
“Lived in France, and spend a ton of time there. Been in that stadium. This is all so devastatingly sad for a place I love. #FrenchPrayers.”
The Parks and Recreation star added:
“Wow. For you trolls out there, the phrase ‘Vive La France’ is the traditional expression of SUPPORT for France.Don’t misinterpret my words.”
