R. Kelly transgender child Jay might be open about his situation but his father is not yet willing to follow the same path.
R&B music legend R. Kelly’s youngest child officially came out as a transguy earlier this month.
Jay Kelly who was born female and was known as Jaya received a lot of praises and attention for open up about his sexuality at the young age of 13.
The LGBT community at large quickly embraced his courage. The young teenager revealed then that his mother was very supportive of his decision and that his famous father was still in the dark about his situation.
This changed on Sunday after a concert in Chicago when WGCI hosts of “The Morning Riot” Tony Sculfield and Nina Chantele asked him about it. At first R. Kelly who some close friends say lives in a bubble did not seem aware of his son’s public statements and blamed everything on blogs reporting false information. The “Ignition” singer said:
“You don’t really want to open it up by saying my daughter is becoming my son. Don’t even give the blogs that kind of credit. You know what I’m saying? Real talk.”
Mr. Kelly also added:
“As far as that is concerned, always believe what you see with your own eyes that is. Always believe what you see. That is the best way to go about this business. And I’ve heard a lot of things about a lot of people and it was never true.”
He then pivoted to talking about his finances and how he has been making the right moves so he can send all of his kids to college.
“You save money so your kids can go to college — no matter what they are or who they are. They’re your kids, you gotta support them.”
R. Kelly mostly avoided talking about Jay’s journey but made it clear that he loves his kids. The “Love Letter” artist explained:
“I have three lovely, lovely kids that I am in love with and that’s in love with me.”
Some were quick to say that he is in denial or was not supportive enough, but it appears that the crooner was not really aware of the things happening in his child’s life.
This comes as no big surprise since Jay himself admitted that they were not very close and have had a complicated relationship.
