Pope Francis delivered a fiery morning Mass where he called out Christians who are greedy and take part in what he described as a dirty business.
According to Vatican Radio, the Pope based his sermon on the Gospel of Mark where Jesus said it is better to drown than push others to commit sinful acts.
The remarks were shared during Mass at Casa Santa Marta. Many believed that the church was quick to issue a minor clarification on the mass because it was assumed once more that Pope Francis might have been slamming Donald Trump.
While in the past Pope Francis has directly called out President Trump on matters such as climate change and his so-called Muslim ban, it appears this time around the sermon was intended for all Christians.
During Thursday’s Mass readings, Pope Francis said that if a person, who claims to be a believer and follower of Jesus Christ, take part in sins such as pretending to be someone they are not and manages a “dirty” business, it is best to become an atheist.
The outspoken Pope went to share a few examples of what he deemed were dirty businesses. He spoke about taking part in money laundering and wealthy business owners who enjoy their private jets and fancy vacations while their employees are barely getting by. Francis said: “So many Christians are like this, and these people scandalize others. How many times have we heard — all of us, around the neighborhood and elsewhere — ‘But to be a Catholic like that, it’s better to be an atheist.’ It is that: scandal.”
Pope Francis went on to slam Christians, who are liars and who live by the rule of “doing what I say but do not repeat the actions I partake in.” He stated: “But what is scandal? Scandal is saying one thing and doing another.”
The pope attacked the fake Christians because he believes that they are the ones giving the religion a bad name and reputation. This is not the first time nor the last one Francis has gone after capitalist excesses.
