ABC and Peta Murgatroyd are briefly parting ways. Via Twitter, Murgatroyd announced that she will not be taking part in Season 21 of Dancing With the Stars due to an ankle injury that needs surgery.
Peta Murgatroyd is out for the season due to an injury. On the day, the full cast of Dancing With the Stars Season 21 was announced, professional dancer Peta Murgatroyd revealed that she will not be competing this year. The 29-year-old television star was partnered with Andy Grammer for the new season and had already begun rehearsing when she injured her ankle.
The Australian stunner, who joined Dancing with the Stars in 2011, said she recently learned that she has a severe ankle injury, which includes four torn ligaments and a broken bone. Miss Murgatroyd will undergo surgery later this month and will need to stay off her feet for at least six weeks.
Murgatroyd plans to take the necessary measures because she wants to keep dancing for many years to come. She stated:
“While putting on my shoes I knew something was not right. I wanted to check it out properly and make sure I was good to go for the season.I Got my MRI results back and it was a really bad diagnosis. It showed I had 4 torn ligaments and a floating piece of bone at the back of my ankle. My doctor said I needed surgery and I knew I needed to put my health first if I want to keep dancing on the show into my 30s.”
Maksim Chmerkovskiy‘s girlfriend added that she is devastated by the news. She shared:
“I will miss the show so much but just know that I will come better back than ever, and with a brand new ankle.”
Murgatroyd, who last danced with football player Michael Sam, went on to confess that she is heartbroken to leave because Andy Grammer is such a wonderful person, she had loved dancing with him and being his friend. She explained:
“Andy told me, ‘This week, can you and [boyfriend Maks Chmerkovskiy] and my wife and I go out to dinner? Let’s just hang out and be cool friends. That was nice. I appreciated that.”
Allison Holker will be replacing Peta Murgatroyd on the forthcoming season.
