NYPD officer chokeholds pregnant woman and the incident is caught on camera. A seven-month pregnant woman named Rosan Miller, was put in a chokehold by a NYPD officer during a fight over illegal grilling on Saturday. A video of the incident shows the NYPD cop, with his arm around the pregnant woman’s neck as he is chokeholding her, while her 7-year-old daughter watches the scene.
The pregnant woman’s brother-in-law and husband were also arrested during the melee. This is the second time this month, a member of the NYPD has been caught using the chokehold, which has been banned since the 1990s.
On Thursday a police officer whose last name is Paige or Page was called to Brooklyn for a domestic violence case.
Over the weekend, the NYPD cop, returned to the home for a follow up, while in the area he spotted a pregnant woman grilling on the sidewalk in front of her home.
Grilling in front of homes is illegal in New York.
The NYPD officer approached Rosan Miller to tell her to move her barbecue grill to her backyard, she refused and that is when a fight broke out.
According to a video that was released by activists from People Organizing and Working for Empowerment and Respect, Rosan Miller, who is seven months pregnant was placed in a chokehold by the NYPD.
The grainy images showed the cop trying to restrain the woman who is from Kingston, Jamaica by holding her arms back, which made her baby bump very visible.
When that move failed, the law enforcer applied the chokehold on Miller as her young daughter watches from behind.
Miller, who studied nursing at Medgar Evers College explained to the media, that she told the law enforcer to stop because he was hurting her, but he wouldn’t, that is when her brother-in-law John Miller and her husband Moses Miller intervened.
Both Miller brothers were arrested and charged with obstruction of justice.
Former city councilman Charles Barron, held a press conference with the former licensed practical nurse at Atlanta Rehabilitation & Performance Center, Inc. by his side, where he demanded that the police department investigates the incident.
Miller said she and her daughter were traumatized by the incident.
While the usage of the chokehold has been banned in the police department since 1993, this is the second time this month an NYPD officer has bee caught using the dangerous maneuver.
Earlier this month, Eric Garner, who was placed in a chokehold died during his arrest by NYPD officers for illegally selling cigarettes to provide for his wife and 6 children.
