NFL ex rising star is accused of leaf blower theft. Former NFL running back Armond Smith was arrested on Friday in Conyers for allegedly stealing a leaf blower. This theft episode is the latest drama in Smith’s once-promising NFL career.
Armond Smith leaf blower theft story may read as a joke for NFL fans, but it is all too real. According to the Rockdale Citizen, Smith was charged with theft by taking, after he allegedly stole a leaf blower worth $500.
The incident apparently took place on August 7, when a witness saw the 28-year-old put a Stihl leaf blower behind his truck. The police report says that he took it from a landscaper’s truck outside of a courthouse.
The owner of the parked truck who was handling some business related things, returned and found his leaf blower gone. With the help of the witness, he was able to give the police a clear description of the alleged thief.
After a thorough investigation, police found out that the former Carolina Panthers was at the county courthouse on the same day the theft was committed. Cameras and other technologies were used to link the athlete to the alleged leaf blower theft. Smith was there to take care of a domestic violence situation.
Smith was part of the Carolina Panthers for the past two seasons, but is not listed on the roster for 2014. The NFL player who is very active on Twitter, has not yet addressed the recent developments in his life off the field.
This is not Smith’s first run-in with the law, earlier this year, he was arrested in DeKalb County, Georgia for driving with a non valid license and hitting the maximum limits.
Smith’s troubles on the filed started on August 22, 2013, after he kicked Baltimore Ravens’ linebacker Albert McClellan in the groin during a preseason game. Armond Smith who was born in Los Angeles, California, had a very promising career when he made a strong start with the Cleveland Browns in 2011.
If the theft charge moves further, Smith could end up doing some community service.
