Miss Texas awful pitch has gone viral and now she is explaining the reason she threw the way she did. Monique Evans is not running from the attention she is receiving for her failed first pitch, she is embracing it as she prepares for Miss America 2015.
Miss Texas awful pitch at Friday’s MLB game between the Los Angeles Angels and the Texas Rangers at the Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas, will go down as one of the most incomplete ceremonial pitches in history.
Monique Evans, 22, a professional ballerina and pre-med student at the University of Texas, tried to bring some of her dancing skills to the baseball field. The result is what she called “an Arabesque,” a ballet position that resembles bowling when applied to baseball.
On Monday, Evans did an interview with KRLD-FM 105.3, where she said:
“My goal of the afternoon was to get the ball over the plate. But when I threw it, there must have been a breeze or something that took it to the side and down. There must have been, right?”
Miss Texas furthermore explained why she brought the Arabesque ballet position to her first pitch. She added:
“It’s called an Arabesque, and I definitely love using the Arabesque. I think it’s so beautiful. And I also wanted to add my own spin on the pitch and just kind of make it very personal, because I am a ballerina. I’ve been dancing since I was 2, and I think ballet is such a great art as well as a great sport, and I was just having fun with it.”
The young woman also revealed during the little chat that she did not practice for the pitch, although the last time she touched a ball, she was in first grade. Evans thinks that her first pitch was worse than rapper 50 Cent who threw a horrible ball at a New York Mets game in May.
The California native has turned her bad throw into a huge PR win that could help when she competes for the Miss America 2015 title on September 14 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
