Melissa Joan Hart, a popular actress and business person, is being accused of cashing in on 9/11. Hart, who has apologized for the mini-controversy, has also blasted the media for not covering the 14th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks in a proper way.
Sabrina, the Teenage Witch actress Melissa Joan Hart has managed to insert herself into the coverage of the fourteenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks. Hart, 39, began by bashing cable news networks – Fox News and CNN – for not offering “continual coverage” of the memorial. The mother of three tweeted:
“Extremely disappointed in @foxnews and @CNN for not having continual coverage of Sept11 memorial &names listed on the banner!!#neverforget.”
The Melissa & Joey star later added:
“My children need to know that this day changed our lives in the U.S. and the world and without solid news coverage, I’m discouraged. #neverforget.”
Hart did not stop there; she continued with:
“If kardashians can be covered 24/7 why can’t we have one day dedicated to a moment in history that changed our path? I don’t need to see tragedy, I need to see stories of healing &memory! #neverforget.”
The Santa Con actress also took her rant to Instagram. On the photo-sharing, she posted the following note:
“This lightens my heart as I wake up today and am discouraged by the lack of footage around the memory of those lost. Have we so quickly forgotten about the victims, the survivors, the families left behind and the first responders who so heroically ran into the buildings while everyone else ran out?! At least this photo reminds us that there is a hope for peace and love in the world and a promise for a better place in eternal peace. #neverforget.”
Melissa Joan Hart’s postings did not seem controversial, and most commenters sided with her until she opted to plug her company, King Of Harts, a clothing line. The problematic post read:
“Free Shipping in honor of the victims, families & first responders of 9/11. Use the promo code ‘911’ during your online checkout at KingofHarts.com.”
Hart was slammed for trying to profit from the anniversary. At first, she resisted issuing an apology, but her critics kept pushing. On Saturday, Hart finally gave in and published an apology on her official Facebook page. She stated:
“I want to apologize for yesterday’s free shipping post. It was meant to be my small way to give something back. I wanted to cover the shipping charges as a heartfelt gesture, not an exploit of 9/11. I see now how it was interpreted and viewed as being in bad taste. I apologize. It was a mistake. I did not want to draw attention away from what the focus of yesterday should have been. And for that, I am sad.”
