According to a recent report, Megyn Kelly’s show, Megyn Kelly Today, that airs on NBC is facing more bad press with a possible shift to a different time slot.
Ever since the show’s premiere in September last year, it has been a real struggle for it to attract viewers, and the execs are therefore now considering to shift Kelly’s program to an hour later in the TV schedule.
Instead of Megyn Kelly Today, the time gap will be filled with the presence of Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb, who usually are shown at 10 a.m. The ratings of Gifford and Kotb were reduced by 26 percent after their timeslot was filled with Kelly’s show at the time.
Apparently, viewers, who found that they were not interested in Kelly’s talk show did not want to wait an hour more to watch Gifford and Kotb afterward.
Forwarding Kelly’s show with an hour might be the smartest thing to do since it might turn out to be beneficial for the already damaged ratings of Kathie Lee & Hoda.
For the time being, the execs are hoping that the time swap of the series will result in an increase of the numbers of viewers.
Since Matt Lauer was dismissed from NBC in November last year because of allegations of sexual harassment against him, Kotb has been filling his time slot from 7 a.m. till 9 a.m. in collaboration with Savannah Guthrie.
Moving Kelly’s show and giving Kotb a three-hour block might turn out to be a beneficial act, since the anchor could do all of her appearances at once, instead of splitting her time in two, first with Guthrie and then with Gifford.
No representatives from NBC could be reached for comments after Page Six broke the news. Kelly was able to grab headlines with some viral moments in recent weeks, but that did not improve her situation at the Peacock Network.
