A Meghan Trainor backlash is making headlines. Singer and songwriter Meghan Trainor is facing a backlash over the music video for her new single “Dear Future Husband,” where she plays a woman from the 1950s who cleans and cooks for the love of her life. Meghan Trainor, who has been slammed for being anti-feminist, claimed that she was shocked by the controversy.
A Meghan Trainor backlash has surprised even the singer. Last month, Trainor debuted the music video for the single entitled “Dear Future Husband.”
The song, which was written by Trainor in collaboration with Kevin Kadish, is featured on Title, the singer’s debut album.
In the music video, which was put together by Fatima Robinson, who previously directed the funny clip for “All About That Bass,” Meghan Trainor plays a woman from the 1950s who cleans and cooks while singing about never “learning to cook.” In the song, Trainor also says that she “can write a hook,” but she is “too busy to make pies.”
The clip, which has over 19 million views on YouTube, is creating drama. Meghan Trainor was slammed for being an anti-feminist. Via social media, one person warned:
“The positive message in All About That Bass is gone, stay away from Dear Future Husband, it’s offensive.”
Another added:
“Does Meghan Trainor want us back in the kitchen or something, did she get the memo from Hilary Clinton, who is too busy to bake pies.”
In a new interview with MTV, Meghan Trainor tackled the backlash by saying that she was surprised. The “Lips Are Movin” artist said:
“Just surprised the random places people are asking me if I was being sexist.”
Trainor went on to say that she is not sexist or anti-feminist, au contraire, she wanted the sassy song to make a statement that women should be treated better, cared for by their partners. The diva explained:
“But no, I don’t believe I was. I think I was just writing my song to my future husband out there, wherever he is. He’s chilling right now, taking a minute getting ready for me; it’s going to be great.”
Meghan Trainor has already moved on from the so-called backlash and is focusing on her upcoming MTrain Tour, which will launch on July 3 in New Jersey, and she is hard at work on her sophomore album. Trainor might have few duets on the upcoming project. She revealed:
“So far I’ve been on the road and I got a lot of great people reaching out to us saying, ‘We want to write with her for her next album,’ but I’m gone, I’m overseas. When I come back, though, wait for me.”
