Martin Freeman is joining the cast of Captain America: Civil War, and fans of The Hobbit franchise and TV series Sherlock could not be happier.
English actor Martin Freeman has joined the cast of Captain America: Civil War, a superhero film that will be released on May 6, 2016. The new release, a sequel to Captain America: The Winter Soldier that was put out in 2014, will be directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo. The Russo brothers also worked on the previous installment of the series.
Freeman joins Captain America: Civil War, but his role has not yet been revealed. Producer Kevin Feige is the one who broke the casting news on Tuesday. The 41-year-old president of Marvel Studios said:
“From his roles as Bilbo Baggins and Dr. Watson to Tim in The Office, Martin’s range from the dramatic to the comedic has consistently impressed us. We couldn’t be more honored or excited to have such a talented actor join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
Fans of the genre do not expect the What’s Your Number? actor to portray a superhero; instead, his character will probably be part of a governmental agency that interacts with The Avengers. It is highly unlikely that Freeman’s role will be significant since the movie will focus mostly on the war between Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr).
It will pick up where Avengers: Age of Ultron ended. Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier) and Anthony Mackie (Falcon) have all agreed to reprise their parts. Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther) and Daniel Bruhl (Baron Helmut Zemo) were recently added to the cast.
At 43, Martin Freeman is mainly known for playing Tim Canterbury in the British version of The Office and Dr. John Watson in the UK rendition of Sherlock. His portrayal of Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit film trilogy opened the door to international fame and recognition.
Commentators have applauded the casting because Freeman is a very talented and convincing actor. Freeman joins Captain America: Civil War and the excitement around the movie has reached a new peak.
