Mariska Hargitay says Olivia Benson is still a great character to play that is why she staying on Law & Order: SVU. Hargitay also reveals that she wants Taylor Swift as back up on the series.
Mariska Hargitay appeared on several television shows this week to promote Law & Order: SVU, talk about Olivia Benson, Taylor Swift and her cat named Olivia Benson, and Chris Meloni.
Talking to Access Hollywood Live and Today, Hargitay said that she still finds it fun to play lead character Olivia Benson.
Hargitay explained that she has grown attached to the tough talking yet lovable Olivia Benson, which is the reason why she is staying on Law & Order: SVU until the day NBC decides to cancel it. Mrs Mariska Hargitay explained:
“Olivia is still fun to play .That’s why I’m still here. I feel like there’s just new notes being played, and you know, after last year I was sort of wrecked.”
Hargitay who is the mother to three children, August, Amaya Josephine and Andrew is happy that on the 16th season of Law & Order: SVU, which will premiere on Wednesday, she will play a mom to baby Noah.
While talking about her children (Mariska Hargitay and husband Andrew Peter Hermann had August in 2006, adopted Amaya Josephine in April of 2011 and Andrew Peter Hermann in October of 2011) and baby Noah, Hargitay got emotional. Mrs Andrew Peter Hermann revealed:
“Emotionally, it was a very tough year… This year feels so new, and that’s exciting. To have a baby, that’s a whole other set of muscles and new notes to play.”
The 50-year-old star stated that she is thrilled to see the writers take Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in a new direction, she said:
“The storyline is so moving to me. This year is a very different season from last year. Olivia Benson gets this baby plopped in her lap. It’s just nothing shy of a miracle to the character.”
Mariska Hargitay also revealed that she wants Taylor Swift as back up on the weekly police drama. Swift adopted a cat about three months ago, decided to name it after New York City sex crimes Detective Olivia Benson (see cute picture of Taylor Swift and her Olivia Benson below).
Hargitay said that everyone she knows, emailed or texted her about Swift’s cat and she has decided to send the singer a little gift for her pet:
“If you name your cat after me, you’re gonna get a response, damnit!,I got her a Tiffany collar. She’s getting it in the mail. It’s Tiffany – I spared no expense on this!
Hargitay has invited Swift to come on the show and help her fight crime. Hargitay also opened up about her former co-star and good friend Chris Meloni.
She said that they are still in touch and would love to have Detective Elliot Stabler back on Law & Order: SVU to help Olivia Benson raise her new baby boy.
