A Liam Neeson Bono collaboration is said to be in the works. The legendary movie star revealed in a new interview that he is working with U2’s frontman on a script for a film about 1970s Irish showband phenomenon.
Liam Neeson and Bono, the two Irish icons have been friends for a very long time and they are now collaborating on a screenplay. Neeson who is promoting his new movie A Walk Among the Tombstones that will be released on Friday, shared the news during an interview with The Independent.
The 62-year-old actor said:
“We chat, or with him a lot of the time I just listen. He’s a wonderful man. He’s got an idea for a script which we’ve been working on for the past six years.”
Neeson did not say if he will take a role in the movie or if producers are lining up to finance the project. The Taken star did say, it will be about the Irish showband craze that swept the European country in the ’70s.
The Liam Neeson Bono friendship may be surprising to some, but it seems that a strong bond links the two successful Irishmen. After the death of Neeson’s wife, actress Natasha Richardson in 2009, the music superstar was there to support him and his two sons, Micheál and Daniel.
Earlier this year, while talking to Anderson Cooper on CBS’ 60 Minutes, Neeson explained:
“Bono is a pal, and he came ’round to have a dinner. And I remember he was sitting beside Micheal and, just out of the blue, he said, ‘What age are you Micheal?’ He said — Micheal said, ‘Thirteen.’ And [Bono] said, ‘Yeah, that’s the age I was when I lost my mum.’ That was it. And it — I — I could’ve kissed him for it. He was, like, saying, ‘You know, I lost my mom at this age and I’m doing okay. And you will do okay, too.'”
Neeson also deferred to Bono when he needed to talk about the negative effects of drugs with his children.
