Laura Ingraham and Jeb Bush will not be sitting at the Republican National Convention together. While on her radio program The Laura Ingraham Show, Laura Ingraham slammed Jeb Bush, who revealed that he would have invaded Iraq if he had seen the same intelligence that President George W. Bush received.
Laura Ingraham bashed Jeb Bush for comments he made about the Iraq war. On Monday, Jeb Bush, who is expected to announce his bid for the White House soon, sat down with Megyn Kelly on The Kelly File where he was quizzed on immigration, the Iraq war, and the economy.
Asked if he would have approved the Iraq invasion like his brother, President George W. Bush did, he replied by saying yes and took the opportunity to throw his rival, Hillary Clinton, under the bus. The former governor of Florida said:
“I would have [authorized the invasion], and so would have Hillary Clinton, just to remind everyone.And so would almost everybody that was confronted with the intelligence they got.”
Bush went on to tell the Fox News anchor that the erroneous data would have led anyone to war. The Republican politician shared:
“In retrospect the intelligence that everybody saw, that the world saw, not just the United States, was faulty. Once we invaded and took out Saddam Hussein, we didn’t focus on security first.By the way, guess who thinks those mistakes took place as well? George W. Bush. Yes, I mean, so just for the news flash to the world, if they’re trying to find places where there’s big spaces between me and my brother, this might not be one of those,”
During a segment on The Laura Ingraham Show, host Laura Ingraham demolished Mr. Bush. The conservative commentator said:
“What was the question? Knowing what we know now. Not ‘if you were in the same exact circumstances as your brother, would you have authorized this war.’ No, no, no. Knowing what we know now–namely that there were no WMDs, we got bad intelligence…if you had known all these things, he said yes, I would have still authorized the war!”
She went on to add:
“You have to say no to that.You can’t say ‘Yes, I still would have gone into Iraq.’ And if you do…there has to be something wrong with you. You can’t still think that going into Iraq, now, as a sane human being, was the right thing to do. That’s like, you have no ability to learn from past mistakes at all. When the past mistakes were made by your brother.”
Laura Ingraham is not the only conservative activist slamming Jeb Bush over his Iraq comments. Washington Examiner columnist Byron York is also hitting the former governor. York called Bush’s defense of the war “disastrous.” The Fox News commentator added;
“If Jeb Bush sticks to his position — that he would still authorize war knowing what we know today — it will represent a step backward for the Republican Party. Other candidates before Jeb have grappled with the issue and changed their position.”
York concludes by writing:
“Jeb’s statement is likely to resonate until he either changes his position or loses the race for the Republican nomination. Should he become the nominee, the issue will dog him into the general election campaign.”
What are your thoughts on Laura Ingraham’s Jeb Bush attack? Will Bush be forced to change his views on the Iraq war?
