Krystin Lisaius, also known as Krystin Sorich Lisaius, a once-respected reporter from Arizona, is now making headlines for many wrong reasons. Lisaius and her husband were arrested after police discovered that their 4-month-old baby tested positive for cocaine.
Krystin Sorich Lisaius is a former reporter, who is making national news for a very bizarre story. Lisaius and her husband, Somchai P. Lisaius, both former television reporters, are facing charges in Arizona after their 4-month-old child tested positive for cocaine.
According to Arizona police, on May 15, Krystin and Somchai P. Lisaius attended a friend’s birthday party where more than barbecue, cake, and beers were served.
The couple did cocaine and went home where Mrs. Lisaius had the insane idea to breastfeed her newborn baby. The Oro Valley Police Department stated that the following day, the 4-month-old baby became numb and had difficulties feeding.
The parents of the year took the infant to a first hospital, the Banner-University Medical Center where they refused to let doctors performed a blood test.
Unable to wake the baby up, the duo later visited the Diamond Children’s Hospital, where again they declined to let medical experts draw blood from the child. However, this time around, the hospital quick-thinking staff performed a urinalysis where they discovered the presence of a drug.
Hospital workers immediately alerted the police and the Office of Child Welfare Investigations and the Department of Child Safety rapidly got involved in the matter. At first, the husband and wife denied that they had used cocaine, but eventually confessed. The former Miss Southern Arizona told the cops:
“….that she did the drug the night before at a barbecue she and her husband had hosted at their home.
Krystin Lisaius also admitted that she had breastfed the child the next morning because she didn’t think he would be affected by the drug.”
According to several sources, Somchai Lisaius had worked for KOLD, but it appears that he was fired from his post. Krystin Lisaius, who had at least three miscarriages before conceiving the baby she drugged, had worked alongside her husband at KOLD-TV.
A police search of the couple’s home led to the discovery of two grams of a “white powder or white residue” and other paraphernalia. The parents have been charged with three felonies each, which include child abuse to a person under 18 years of age causing death or serious physical injury, possession of a narcotic drug, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Michael Piccarreta, the couple’s lawyer, said:
“It would be a gross, gross injustice [with] even the mention of prison time, I anticipate they will demonstrate that they have learned a very hard, embarrassing lesson and that this will become a footnote in their life, not a chapter.”
The child is in the custody of the Arizona Department of Child Safety but is staying with his/her, maternal grandmother. The mother has been given constant contact with the child while the father is allowed to see the baby 12 hours per day.
The duo is set to appear in court on July 28.
