Kevin Ward’s family to Tony Stewart: you are a dick who has inflicted us with an unbearable pain. In the wake of the death of Kevin Ward, a family member has taken to Facebook where she blasted Tony Stewart for running over the young NASCAR driver during Saturday’s race.
On Saturday, Ward was killed by NASCAR champion Tony Stewart while participating in a sprint car race in Canandaigua, New York.
Ward’s car was allegedly wrecked by Stewart and landed against the fence.
The young driver was upset for no longer being able to pursue in the competition and made the surprise decision to get out of his car and wait for Stewart to confront him.
In a video that was filmed during the accident, the 20-year-old could be seen angrily waving his hands and yelling at Tony who ran over him and killed him on the scene.
His family including fiancée Mercedes Fruin who witnessed the scene from the stands, issued a brief statement thanking the public for their support and prayers.
But Ward’s aunt Wendi was less diplomatic and took to Facebook where she called the three-time champion a “dick.” Mrs Ward wrote:
Many are debating whether or not the veteran racer saw the driver on the track.
Some believe that it was impossible for Stewart to see the pilot of the Rider Racing Engines Powered #13 360 Sprint Car because it was dark and the young man was dressed in black with matching helmet.
Others say that Tony has a reputation of being a nasty driver (Stewart was involved in an accident about a year ago that left 19-year-old driver Alysha Ruggles almost paralyzed) who decided to accelerate and instead of slowing to scare Ward and the move turned out to be deadly.
The Ontario County, New York, sheriff revealed that he has questioned the athlete but no criminal charges have been filed.
