A Katy Perry divorce text comment has surprised many, including Katy Perry herself. This week, an Australian paper published an interview where Perry confessed that ex-husband, Russell Brand, texted her in 2012 to announce their marriage was over. The only problem is that it is an old quote from three years ago, and now Perry is slamming the publication.
The Katy Perry divorce text message quote that is flying around the Internet is from 2012, not 2015! On Sunday, May 24, Sydney’s Daily Telegraph published what they called an exclusive interview with Katy Perry.
The publication claimed that Miss Perry opened up about her 2013 divorce from British comedian Russell Brand. Perry said that she received a text message from Russell saying that their marriage was over and has not spoken to him since that day. According to the Australian paper, the “Roar” artist said:
“He hasn’t spoken to me since he texted me saying he was filing for divorce.I don’t want to talk about him — my songs will say what I need to say.”
There are two things wrong with this story; Perry never spoke to the Daily Telegraph and the quote is from 2012 and it was given to Vogue. Over three years ago, Perry told Vogue:
“He’s a very smart man, and I was in love with him when I married him. Let’s just say I haven’t heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011.”
Unhappy with the piece, Perry took to Twitter to bash both the newspaper and Chris Knowles, the journalist.
“It’s really inappropriate when journalists repurpose interviews done 3 yrs ago in context of promoting a film & then stamp a new date on it…The Daily Telegraph & Chris Knowles,” an angry Perry tweeted.
The Katy Kats, who are Perry’s fans, found a poor weather forecaster from New York named Chris Knowles and have been bombarding him with insults
In 2014, Perry slammed Australian photographers for hounding her as she tried to enjoy some down time at the beach.
“You should be ashamed of your paparazzi and tabloid culture. Your paparazzi have no respect, no integrity, no character. NO HUMANITY,” she tweeted.
Rejoice Katy Kats, Miss Perry is set to drop a new album in 2016.
