Katherine Heigl and Alexis Bledel are engaged to be married in the latest trailer for Jenny’s Wedding, a new independent comedy directed by Mary Agnes Donoghue that will be released on July 31.
A trailer for Jenny’s Wedding has gone viral. The comedy starring Katherine Heigl and Alexis Bledel will premiere at the Outfest Los Angeles Film Festival on July 10. Three weeks later, fans across the US will have a chance to see the movie.
After finding success with hit films like Knocked Up and 27 Dresses, Heigl has failed to deliver at the box office. The 36-year-old mother of two has been trying to rebound in recent years with projects like Home Sweet Hell and The Big Wedding. These attempts have not really worked, earlier this year, Heigl even returned to TV and NBC with State of Affairs. The espionage thriller series was canceled in May after failing to find a sizable audience on the peacock network.
A trailer for Heigl’s new movie, Jenny’s Wedding, surfaced on the Internet Thursday. In the two-minute clip, the One for the Money actress’ character, Jenny, tries to get her family’s support in marrying her fiancée, Kitty. Jenny’s relatives are conservative, and they think that Kitty is her roommate.
Less than one week after the legalization of same-sex marriage in America, releasing a film like Jenny’s Wedding looks like a good idea on paper. However, after watching the trailer many commentators seemed unsatisfied by the casting, and they were not impressed by what they saw. According to those critics, Katherine Heigl and Alexis Bledel do not have much in terms of chemistry. Additionally, they believe that Heigl is the last person that would come to mind when casting a lesbian character, although it is not clear, whom they would consider as an acceptable alternative.
All of this could be true, or it is just an expression of a preconceived bias against Heigl. It might be best to wait a bit before slamming a movie that has been in the works for close to two years and, which had to fight to come out.
Supporters can also see Heigl in the romantic drama Jackie & Ryan this month, while Bledel’s drama, Outliving Emily, is expected to get released later this year.
