Karina Smirnoff’s engagement to fiancé Jason Adelman has ended less than two months after the news was made official.
The third engagement was not the right one for former Dancing with the Stars pro Karina Smirnoff. Jason Adelman, a 37-year-old actor known for his work on TV shows like American Dreams and Moesha, is the one who announced the breakup.
According to celebrity gossip titan TMZ.com, Adelman was having trouble dealing with Smirnoff’s profession and the kind of “intimacy,” she shared with other dancers. TMZ reported:
Sources close to Jason Adelman — who announced he and Karina were engaged in January — say he called things off because she has “different family values.” We’re told he’s not accusing her of cheating, but he was uncomfortable with the way she acted around other men … especially dancers.
A spokesperson for the 37-year-old professional dancer came out strongly to deny those claims. The person said the remark was “disrespectful and insulting to the entire dance community.” The representative thinks this is a “nothing less than an attempted smear campaign from a malicious person.”
Smirnoff was previously engaged to former Ukrainian Dancing With the Stars pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy from December 2008 to September 2009. The two dancers started dating in the summer of 2008.
The Ukrainian beauty was also engaged to Major League Baseball pitcher Brad Penny from October 2010 to December 2011. They began their relationship in October 2009.
Smirnoff was linked to actor and TV host Mario Lopez from 2006 to June 2008. Lopez and Smirnoff danced together on the third season of Dancing With the Stars.
The dancer’s relationship with Adelman was quite short compared to the previous ones she was involved in. According to reports, she has returned the engagement ring.
Some of her followers are starting to wonder after three failed engagements and zero wedding, if she’s not the problem. Those people say that Smirnoff is stunning, successful and obviously intelligent, (she has a double major in economics and information system programming), but she might be a little difficult to handle in her personal life.
Smirnoff, who left Dancing With the Stars earlier this year, recently released a book titled “We’re Just Not That Into You: Dating Disasters from the Trenches,” about failed relationships. Some commentators have pointed the obvious irony after the split news became official.
