8 women accused Jian Ghomeshi of assault and sexual assault. Thus far, 8 women including actress, Lucy DeCoutere and author, Reva Seth have come forward to accuse Ghomeshi of sexual misconduct. Ghomeshi has been fired by the CBC, which prompted him to file a $55-million lawsuit against the company.
8 women say Jian Ghomeshi sexually assaulted them, he has been fired by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and it all began with a reporter asking him for a simple quote. Let’s start from the beginning.
On April 9, 2014, an anonymous woman posted a tweet, which claimed that Ghomeshi assaulted her. The tweet read:
“Hi there Jian Ghomeshi. Remember louring me to ur house under false pretences? Bruises dont lie. Signed, every female Carleton U media grad.”
Ghomeshi and the bosses from CBC caught wind of the tweet, feared that a scandal was brewing and lawyered up. The musician-turned-broadcaster had a very successful show called Q where he interviewed famous people like Barbra Streisand, Neil Young, Al Gore and Salman Rushdie.
Canadaland podcaster, Jesse Brown also found out about the tweet and was able to talk with 3 women, who claimed that Jian Ghomeshi physically and verbally abused them before, during and after sexual encounters.
Brown was hoping to break the story for the Star. Brown and Jian Ghomeshi’s lawyer, Neil Rabinovitch exchanged several emails where he revealed that it was an angry ex-lover who was fabricating lies. In one letter, Brown wrote:
“The women allege that you strike them with a closed fist or open hand; choke them with your hands around their neck to the point that they almost pass out; cover their nose and mouth so that they have difficulty breathing; and that you verbally abuse them before, during, and after sex acts. The women have told us that they did not consent to this behavior.”
With attorneys blocking him, lawsuits threats, Brown dropped the story.
Two weeks ago, Brown said in his podcast that he was working on a “monster” story that would destroy careers, and Jian Ghomeshi who is described as self-obsessed thought that it was about him (but it was not.)
The broadcaster went into his boss’ office and showed him a very graphic video that would serve as “evidence” to exonerate him. The clip showed Ghomeshi beating consenting women during sexual intercourse.
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation immediately fired Ghomeshi and after the story about the video leaked, 8 women contacted the police.
Two famous faces are among the 8 women accusing Ghomeshi, actress Lucy DeCoutere and author Reva Seth. Seth revealed:
“Jian had his hands around my throat, had pulled down my pants and was aggressively and violently digitally penetrating me with his fingers. When it was over, I got up and it was clear I was really angry. My sexual interactions until then had always been consensual, enjoyable and fun.”
Ghomeshi’s lawyer who filed a $55-million suit against the CBC, has issued a statement, in which his client says that he does not engage in non-consensual role play or non-consensual sex.
Since Ghomeshi was fired, numerous individuals and companies have severed ties with him. In a press conference that took place moments ago, sex crimes Insp. Joanna Beaven-Desjardins revealed that the allegations range from 2002 to 2013.
Thus far, none of the allegations has been proven and the police have not spoken to Ghomeshi. Beaven-Desjardins also explained that instead of 8, there are now 9 women accusing Jian Ghomeshi of sexual assault and she expects more to come forward.
