Jennifer Aniston adds Mean Moms to the list of her future movies, and fans have taken to the Internet to express their excitement about the upcoming project.
Jennifer Aniston is joining the upcoming Mean Moms film that will be directed by Sean Anders. The 46-year-old Cake actress worked with Anders on Horrible Bosses 2 in 2014, and he is the main reason she decided to say yes to Mean Moms.
Aniston’s next movie will be based on the 2006’s book Queen Bee Moms & Kingpin Dads written by Rosalind Wiseman, the parenting educator and author behind Queen Bees and Wannabes, which was used as the basis for the 2004’s hit comedy Mean Girls, starring Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey.
According to Deadline, New Line Cinema is hoping to begin shooting Mean Moms this summer. The movie has been in the works for few years and was initially set to be released in May 2015, but got delayed by other productions that kept getting more attention.
Although Mean Moms is often presented as a sequel/spin-off to Mean Girls, none of the original cast members are expected to appear. Instead, the film will focus on a happy mother of two, who leaves a small town behind with her family, and discovers the meanness and stiff competition that reside in suburban America. The clash of cultures will be hard to accept, and the family will have to adapt to this new environment.
Commentators believe that Mean Moms has a lot of potential if it is well executed. They say the film should try to build on the ideas that turned Mean Girls into a classic. Aniston is obviously very talented and can easily be the face of the venture, but she will need to be surrounded by a strong cast.
In Mean Girls, all the characters had something interesting to offer. If done well, the viewer will have an easier time finding the movie relatable. Since Mean Moms will focus mostly on women, this is something that should not be neglected.
In the meantime, fans of Aniston can catch her in the comedy-drama She’s Funny That Way, which will be released on August 21, 2015.
