Attention California beachgoers, at least thirteen great whites were spotted near Sunset Beach in Huntington Beach, some say that it might be time to go biking instead.

On Tuesday night, a helicopter belonging to the Huntington Beach Police Department flew over Huntington Beach and spotted more than thirteen juvenile whites measuring 6 to 10 feet swimming near the shore.

According to the police officers, the great whites were less than 50 feet from the shore and feeding. White sharks mainly feed at night and primarily on chunks of dislodged or torn carcasses of other sea creatures. More on the great whites feeding habits via Wiki:

“Off California, great white sharks immobilize northern elephant seals, with a large bite to the hindquarters (which is the main source of the seal’s mobility) and wait for the seal to bleed to death. This technique is especially used on adult male elephant seals, which are typically rather larger than the shark at an average range of 1,500 to 2,000 kg (3,300 to 4,400 lb),and are potentially dangerous adversaries.Prey is normally attacked sub-surface. Harbour seals are taken from the surface and dragged down until they stop struggling. They are then eaten near the bottom. California sea lions are ambushed from below and struck mid-body before being dragged and eaten.”

Members of the Huntington Beach Police Department told local media that there were no surfers or swimmers in the area where the 13 great whites were spotted.

The law enforcers did share the information with Huntington Beach lifeguards, and they decided that no swim advisories or warning were needed for the moment.

Huntington Beach lifeguards stated that on May 11, they received several reports from witnesses who spotted six young sharks near the shores of Huntington Beach.

Last month, a large group of sharks were spotted by paddleboarders near Surfside Beach.
