Gloria Haas Lego heist is making headlines. A woman named Gloria Haas almost got away with stealing over 800 Lego play sets in New York. Haas, 53, was caught by authorities, as she tried to sell the Lego toys on eBay. The Lego thief was set to make about $60k with the merchandise. Haas has been charged with grand larceny.
On Thursday, Gloria Haas was arrested by officers from the New York City Police Department after it was discovered that she was stealing Lego toys.
Haas was not collecting the Lego bricks and they were not for her grandchildren either.
According to the police, the 53-year-old woman spent several nights stealing the colorful construction toys to make a small fortune.
The Island Park woman snatched more than 800 Lego bricks from an unsupervised storage facility in Island Park and moved them to another storage facility located in Rockville Centre.
Nassau County detectives who were investigating the theft were able to locate Haas as she attempted to sell the famous Danish self-locking bricks on eBay.
The criminal was set to make about $60,000 with the Lego bricks. On Friday, Haas made her first appearance in court in the First District Court in Hempstead where she was arraigned on charges of grand larceny.
The Lego snatcher is free on a conditional release to probation and will face the judge Tuesday morning.
Haas and her attorney have refused to talk to the media about her story, and she went as far as disconnecting her phone in order not to be bothered.
Haas is not the first person who tried to get away with stealing Lego bricks.
The same day, Haas was busted, four people were arrested in Arizona for the same crime.
Garry Fairbee, 35, Tarah Dailey, 33, Melissa Dailey, 34, and Troy Koehler, 40, were caught trying to steal over $200K worth of Lego sets from Toys R Us stores.
In June, a man in Australia stole $70,000 worth of Lego bricks in fives stores and got away with the crime.
Again, Gloria Haas Lego heist is not the first and will certainly not be the last.
