Gladstone, the British cat, who recently bid adieu to former Prime Minister David Cameron, will be moving to UK’s Treasury.

The adorable 18-year-old Domestic Short Hair will not be handling pounds and pennies. Instead, he will be dealing with pesky mice that are bothering employees at Westminster.

Gladstone will not be alone in his fight to eradicate rodents at the Treasury; he will be working alongside Chief Mouser, Larry. The two cats are not friends and might fight for their territory – see a video of a recent encounter below.

Chief Mouser Larry, has a very hectic schedule, not only is he in charge of catching mice at Westminster, he is in charge at the Foreign and Commonwealth with his famous pal, Palmerston. A spokesman for the Treasury made the announcement with the statement below:

“We are delighted to introduce our new cat, Gladstone, to the heart of British politics”.

The statement also explained that Gladstone, the British cat, was adopted as a stray from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. The spokesperson added:

“He was re-homed from Battersea with an activity feeder which helps to encourage him to eat his food slowly. Chief Mouser Larry was recruited to the cabinet nearly four year ago and has been successful in catching mice, however, lacks in feline social skills, dealing with cats of different ministries.”

The cat was wandering the streets of the capital, hungry, and with no microchip, he was taken to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home and eventually moved to 10 Downing Street. Gladstone was named after William Ewart Gladstone, who served as prime minister for four terms.

Larry and Palmerston are already famous on Twitter and Instagram with thousands of followers. Gladstone recently got an Instagram account, and he already has more than 1,200 fans.

Do you think Gladstone, the British cat, will keep the U.K. Treasury mouse-free?

Dapper.
