Girl falls to death at Yellowstone National Park. An 8-year-old girl by the name of Zahra Allahyri falls to her death down the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, after accidentally stepping off the trail. Allahyri was hiking with her family on the north side of Yellowstone in Wyoming. This is the third death at Yellowstone since the year began.
A California community is distraught after a girl falls to her death while visiting Yellowstone with her family.
Early Sunday morning, Zahra Allahyri and her parents who were visiting the state of Wyoming went hiking in the first national park in the world – Yellowstone National Park.
The group was walking on a long trail that is located on the north side of the canyon (where hikers can see the Upper and Lower Yellowstone Falls) when tragedy struck.
No one really knows why, but at some point Allahyri left the trail, lost her footing and fell 550 feet to her death.
At noon, a helicopter located the body of the 8-year-old child. The passing of the child has many in Poway, California mourning.
Wyoming authorities are currently investigating the accident.
Allahyri was supposed to enter fourth grade at the Pomerado Elementary School, which prompted officials to release a statement offering their thoughts and prayers to her friends and family.
The Poway Unified School District has offered counselors to those who may need someone to talk to during this difficult time.
Zahra’s best friend Kirsten Newkirk said she was very loving, kind and will miss her very much.
Newkirk who was in Asia on vacation added she was eager to see her pal again and give her the special gift that she bought for her – a bookmark with the girl’s favorite thing in the world – dragons.
The same day the little girl plunged to her death, the body of Darien Latty from Georgia was discovered in Lamar River near Tower Junction.
Latty, 22, who was working at Yellowstone’s Roosevelt Lodge had gone missing over a week ago, while tubing with two of his friends.
The trio was swept downstream, and two managed to get out fast enough, while Latty who opted not to wear a life jacket drowned.
In early June, a man from Taiwan, the Republic of China, was killed by a fallen tree while walking on the Fairy Falls trail.
The 36-year-old left his group to take better pictures of the Grand Prismatic Spring when a pine tree fell on his head, killing him on the spot.
Below is the statement issued by the school on Zahra Allahyri, the girl who fell to her death at Yellowstone National Park:
