The G20 Summit was taken over by cats, and the strange incident has gone viral. No one can explain how nor why, but three stray cats found a way to stroll casually on the venue of the G20 Summit taken place in Antalya, Turkey where Presidents Obama, Putin and France’s foreign minister Laurent Fabius were set to take center stage.
Cats at the G20 Summit, this sounds like a bad Hollywood comedy, but it is actually what happened this week. On Sunday morning, cameras live streaming the venue of the 2015 G20 Summit in Antalya, Turkey caught an unsual sight – three cats walking around as if they were in their living room.
The brief clip showed a dark brown cat entering the venue and inspecting the flags. The animal was later joined by two more felines – a brown and a black and white that decided to sit near the flowers and sniff them. The trio strolled on both sides of the stage before running away.
Some of the 20 participants of this year’s summit included Dilma Rousseff, president of Brazil, Angela Merkel, chancellor of Germany, Vladimir Putin, president of Russia, U.S. President Barack Obama, and Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India. Laurent Fabius, minister of foreign affairs and international development replaced French President François Hollande, who did not attend the event due to the horrible Paris attacks.
With so many important figures at the summit, one must ask, where were the police, secret service agents, and bodyguards? How can few cats bypass the Turkish security and get to the stage? With ISIL promising havoc, and knowing the fact that rats were used to transport bombs during World War II, shouldn’t world leaders be better protected? Isn’t this a security failure?
Not many people took the cat incident seriously, most of them saw it as a light-hearted moment and fled to social media to laugh at the matter. One person claimed that that those cats are not strays, and added:
“They’re not strays. They’re the leaders of Kittistan and Catlandia.”
Another commenter shared:
“These cats are for security – they have Nano cameras on them.”
A third tweeted:
“But sadly, not in Catstantinople.”
Even the reporters got in the joke, BBC journalist Duncan Stone tweeted the short video and captioned it:
‘Obama and Putin upstaged by three cats’.
The summit, which brings leaders of the world’s 20 major economies together to discuss various topics such as the state of the global economy, climate change, trade, energy, and the Syrian refugee crisis, was dominated by the deadly terrorist attacks in Paris.
The events in France, which killed 129 people at a concert, restaurants and a football stadium, left hundreds hospitalized in critical condition and a nation paralyzed by fear. The attacks prompted the world leaders to conclude that ISIL must be eradicated, how they will achieve that remains unclear.
@DuncanCStone But, sadly, not in
