‘Frozen 2’ might be coming, but the news has not yet been confirmed. Actress Idina Menzel, who brought Elsa to life in the original, is the person responsible for the Frozen sequel rumors.
On Sunday, fans of the movie Frozen were thrilled to learn that a sequel was in the works for the foreseeable future. The information came via The Telegraph and its lengthy piece on Idina Menzel, the voice behind Elsa.
Menzel, 43, who is currently promoting her Christmas album, Holiday Wishes, told the publication:
“They’re all in the works […a sequel and a stage musical]. Not the stage show — I don’t know what will happen with that — but the movie, hopefully. We’ll see. I’m just going along for the ride.”
This small quote was enough to create a real frenzy in the entertainment industry since Frozen is the highest-grossing animated film of all time. A lot of media outlets ran with the quote, some going as far as stating that ‘Frozen 2’ was confirmed and official.
Those organizations were forced to retract their stories after Menzel decided to walk back her initial claims on Monday. During a promo visit to NBC’s The Today Show in New York City, Menzel clarified her previous statement about ‘Frozen 2’. The talented artist said:
“You know, I have no idea. I just assume because it’s so successful, that that’s what they’re up to — [another film].”
There you have it. Officially, there’s no ‘Frozen 2’, but Menzel would be interested in reprising her role if a sequel does come to fruition in the future.
According to sources, ‘Frozen 2’ is probably already in the works, Walt Disney Pictures are just not ready to make the information public. This would explain, why Menzel had to take back her first remark.
In May, Disney said it will not “mandate a sequel” or “force storytelling.” ‘Frozen 2’, if it does happen will probably be as organic as its predecessor.
