Erin Burnett claims the word “thug” is appropriate to describe the behavior of some of the Baltimore rioters, drama ensues, and the liberal side of the political spectrum is going hard after the news anchor.
Erin Burnett thinks “thug” is an accurate depiction of some of the Baltimore rioters, but people in the liberal media believe that she is wrong because the word is just the clean version of the N-word.
The controversy started on Tuesday night’s episode of CNN’s OutFront during a segment on the use of the word “thug” by President Barack Obama and Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake to describe those involved in the Baltimore riots.
Burnett, who had Baltimore City Councilman Carl Stokes as a guest, asked him about Obama’s remarks. She said:
“Isn’t that the right word?”
Stokes did not agree with the characterization and replied by:
“These are children who have been set aside, marginalized, who have not been engaged by us.”
Burnett would not let it go and pushed back, she stated:
“But how does that justify what they did? I mean that’s a sense of right and wrong. They know it’s wrong to steal and burn down a CVS and an old person’s home, I mean, come on.”
At this point, Mr. Stokes appeared exasperated by the line of questioning and decided to express his feelings on the subject. He explained:
“Come on? So calling them thugs? Just call them niggers. Just call them niggers. No. We don’t have to call them by names such as that. We don’t have to do that.”
Burnett ended the conversation by saying that if her child had committed such criminal acts, she would be comfortable calling him a “thug.”
Commentators on the left have slammed the CNN anchor for not understanding what young black men are facing in America. According to Merriam-Webster, the word describes “a violent criminal.” Some in the middle and the right say that the definition fits perfectly to describe what took place in Baltimore on Monday.
Are the Baltimore rioters “thugs?” Is Erin Burnett wrong for calling these youngsters the T-word?
The B-More rioters became criminals. Had nothing to do with skin color, name calling, or age. Besides, these people are not young children. From what I watched on CNN’s reports, the rioters were grown and mostly men. (Now, grown men can behave like children or have child-like minds). These people were engaging in blatant crimes we have the videos to verify it. What a disgrace! I spent 7 months in B-More as a traveling nurse. Worked at Maryland General. I loved B-More and at the same time felt the disparity. I used to trade at that CVS and buy from the peddlers on the street I saw the drug dealings at the curb sides in broad daylight. I saw the babies in strollers at the curb sides late at night. Erin, you are a beautiful and great journalist. Keep it going real 🙂
