Duchess Kate tears up after talking to a mom, who lost her baby girl, according to the Inquisitr. On Monday, the Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, was photographed wiping tears away as she left an event at the East Anglia Children’s Hospices better known as EACH in Norfolk, England.
Duchess Kate looked elegant in a red dress designed by Katherine Hooker that showed off her baby bump, and black suede Jimmy Choo shoes.
The Duchess of Cambridge is hoping to help raise £10 million or $16 million in order to build a new Norfolk hospice. So, why was a tearful Duchess Kate seen leaving the gathering?
A young mother by the name of Leigh Smith, who attended the charity event with 700 other guests, has an explanation. Smith’s baby girl, Beatrice Octavia Iris Smith, was born in November of 2013 and suffered from cardiomyopathy, which is a rare heart condition.
For six long weeks, Beatrice was cared for at the East Anglia Children’s Hospices. And on February 24th of this year, the parents, Toby and Beatrice were forced to make the decision to let Beatrice go. Mrs Smith, a physiotherapist, said:
“She passed away in my arms very peacefully holding mine and her daddy’s hands.”
After the tragic death of her 3-month-old daughter, Smith wrote to Kate and to her great surprise, she responded with a heartwarming letter.
While at the East Anglia Children’s Hospices, Duchess Kate searched for the mourning mother and hugged her. Kate also had some encouraging words for the grieving mom.
Smith had the following to say about the moving exchange:
“Kate sought me out and gave me a hug just before she left. I was getting quite teary-eyed, she had tears in her eyes and she just said to me: ‘You’re a very brave lady and again, I’m just so, so sorry.’”
The distraught mother also spoke about the letter she mailed to Duchess Kate:
“I was so surprised to receive a letter with such personal comments and signed by her,’ Mrs Smith said. ‘It was a lovely gesture and helped me through a terrible time.I was touched that she had taken so much time to carefully read my letter and then to reply herself – it shows how much she cares.”
Smith revealed that she was honored to meet Duchess Kate. She stated:
“When I met her today she remembered the letter and said it was an honour to meet me. I was completely taken aback. For me it was an honour to meet her.”
During the launch, Duchess Kate spoke to dozens of parents who explained why their sick children need the hospices.
