Drew Barrymore flashed David Letterman during an appearance on Late Show with David Letterman in 1995 on the day of his 48th birthday. 20 years later, Drew Barrymore opened up about the iconic television moment by saying that it was spontaneous and scary.
Drew Barrymore flashed David Letterman 20 years ago and with the legendary TV host hanging up his mic, the actress has decided to open up about the epic moment.
In 1995, Drew Barrymore, who was featured in three movies – Boys on the Side, Batman Forever and Mad Love – appeared on Late Show with David Letterman to talk about her amazing career.
The then-20-year-old, who sported a blue crop top, black pants and a pair of boots, told herself that she was an exotic dancer – which would explain why she jumped on Letterman’s desk, did a little belly dance and lifted up her shirt to flash him.
After Drew Barrymore had flashed David Letterman, she moved close to him and gave him a little kiss on the cheek. It was Barrymore’s way of wishing Letterman a happy 48th birthday.
Letterman laughed and told Barrymore “thank you.” Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Barrymore said that it was scary and very spontaneous.
“He’s always been known as the person who had no problem letting the audience know he was not down with what the guest was doing. It was scary,” she said. “It completely spontaneous and not calculated in any way, it left Letterman saying, I can’t thank you enough for that.”
Barrymore went on to add:
“Then I just looked forward to going back. There’s an energy to his show. The more you tried to charm him, the less he wanted it. He either liked you or he didn’t. When you usually go on a talk show it’s very buddy-buddy. But with him you have to work for it. But not too hard, because he won’t like that!”
Last night, Letterman’s final show aired, and he claimed that he was retiring to devote his life to social media. Comedian Stephen Colbert is replacing Letterman.
