A dad attempted to run over teens, who fought with his daughter; the angry parent has been arrested. Father of the year nominee, Mr. Roy Williams, 56, had called Illinois authorities to report the attacks, but he chose not to wait for help to arrive and tried to injure a group of teenagers with his SUV.
A dad tried to run over a group of teens, and the whole incident was caught on video. The father in question is 56-year-old Roy Williams from Illinois, and he is currently behind bars for his actions. It is unfortunate, he did not take the approach below to help his daughter who was being bullied and attacked.
According to Stand Up for Yourself and Your Friends: Dealing with Bullies and Bossiness and Finding a Better Way by Patti Kelley Criswell, there are ways to get out of certain situations:
The message in this book is that there is no one right way to deal with bullying. Instead, there are lots of options for girls to try, from ignoring a bully and trying a few clever comebacks to reporting bullying to a trusted adult. Readers learn how to stand up for others and be a good friend, too. The book ends with a pledge girls can sign, plus tear-out tips for girls to share with their parents.
The police claimed that Wednesday night as Roy Williams was picking up his daughter from Nelson Elementary School he learned that she was involved in a fight with a group of teenagers.
The young girl told her father that she was beaten by the clan, and Williams called the police to report the matter. However, for a strange reason, the dad had no patience and did not wait for the police to arrive.
Moreover, he attacked and tried to hit the two 14-year-old girls behind the alleged bullying with his cane. Seeing that the father did not accomplish what he had in mind, he decided to run over few other teenagers instead. No one was hurt during the incident.
Rockford Police Assistant Deputy Chief Doug Pann, who was first on the scene, explained:
“It was very helpful to identify who the suspect was, but it doesn’t necessarily tell the whole story, so we have to take a look at it and then talk to the people who were there.”
Pann said that several people filmed the incident and added:
“He had a different perspective than everyone else did.”
Nathan Velez, 15, who witnessed the drama, shared:
“I just knew we had to get out of the way before he hit one of us. When I first saw him pull out the bat I knew it was going to go somewhere, I knew he was trying to injure somebody.”
Williams, who claimed that he was protecting his daughter, was charged with aggravated assault with a vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held on a $150,000 bond.
The story of the dad, who tried to run over teens to protect his child, has gone viral and sparked an intense debate. Some say he was right to take the law into his own hands, while others believe that he is a “mental case” and his actions were wrong.
This father is a hero in my eyes!! Yeah let the law handle it, so the next day the little girl can get beaten again for “snitching”, you have a 15 year old boy claiming that he was in fear for his life, yet I don’t see any mention of the brutality that this little girl suffered at the hands of this violent group. It wasn’t even a fair fight they ganged up on her!! My opinion is that it is a shame he didn’t actually hit one of them
