Creflo Dollar’s jet fund’s page has been cancelled amid controversy. A pastor’s $65 million jet fund has turned into a PR nightmare and a real headache. Some are wondering if the devil wants him to start flying coach.
Creflo Dollar, an Atalanta-based reverend and the head of World Changers Church, needs a new private jet to spread the word of God, so he turned to members of his church and supporters everywhere for donations. Dollar, who set his eyes on a $65 million jet, asked his 200,000 followers to give $300 or more to help him purchase a Gulfstream G650.
The project called “Project G650” was launched on Friday via a neat six-minute video and cool webpage detailing why the multimillionaire televangelist needs a new plane that is described as “the biggest, fastest, most luxurious, longest range and most technologically advanced jet — by far.” When the story went viral, the pastor’s $65 million jet fund’s page was removed from the Creflo Dollar Ministries website, but followers are still able to donate.
Before the social media backlash, the pastor just wanted to purchase a new private jet in order to “safely and swiftly share the Good News of the Gospel worldwide.” The Georgia megachurch described the project as followed:
“The mission of Project G650 is to acquire a Gulfstream G650 airplane so that Pastors Creflo and Taffi (his wife) and World Changers Church International can continue to blanket the globe with the Gospel of grace,” Dollar’s website said. “We are believing for 200,000 people to give contributions of 300 US dollars or more to turn this dream into a reality—and allow us to retire the aircraft that served us well for many years.”
Dollar preaches prosperity gospel that encourages members to donate 10% of their income to the church to gain wealth and health. The popular pastor, who started his church in 1986, has a net worth estimated at $27 million. His congregation purchased a plane in 1999, but it is now out of function. Dollar’s website revealed:
“The ministry’s current airplane was built in 1984, purchased by the ministry in 1999 and has since logged four million miles. Recently on an overseas trip to a global conference, one of the engines failed. By the grace of God, the expert pilot, who’s flown with Creflo for almost 20 years, landed the plane safely without injury or harm to any passengers.”
The Creflo Dollar jet fund was slammed on social media and some people say that Dollar is taking advantage of his followers. Dollar, 53, was arrested in 2012 for allegedly choking one of his daughters. The charges were later dropped and the pastor said that he should have never been arrested in the first place.
