Corey Clark, a contestant from the second season of American Idol, is back in the news for all the wrong reasons. Clark was arrested in Arizona on Wednesday in a domestic violence-related case.
Corey Clark, 35, is still grabbing headlines over 13 years after getting kicked out of American Idol in an epic way. Clark’s personal life is responsible for his return in the gossip columns. He was arrested in Yuma, Arizona Wednesday on domestic violence-related charges. The singer appeared in court Thursday; his next date is set for Monday. The bail is set at $20,000.
Clark is accused of screaming and yelling at his estranged wife, Monica Rodriguez Gonzalez Clark, 36, and a male friend during a September 17 incident. Moreover, he allegedly followed the pair for hours. According to the wife, the event was a violation of a protective order that she had against him. The protective order limited their interaction to emails regarding their children.
According to the police report, the former reality TV contestant broke the rules by sending Monica other types of emails. One of them allegedly read:
“You still fill my heart with so much joy whenever I get the chance to see you. I wish things were different with us. I wish things were better for us.”
The report added:
“While processing Clark he continued to argue over the fact that he could email [his wife] anything he wanted.”
Clark was initially charged with felony domestic violence, aggravated harassment and failure to comply. Local authorities later opted to change them to misdemeanor domestic violence and felony for aggravated harassment. Clark appeared before Yuma Justice of the Peace Greg Stewart, who told him Thursday:
“Those are the allegations.”
Corey Clark, who finished 10th on American Idol Season 2, claimed in May 2005 that he had sexual relations with then-American Idol judge Paula Abdul. An investigation by Fox did not find evidence to back up Clark’s allegations. Moreover, he was disqualified from the hit program for failing to disclose a previous arrest. Over the years, the singer has had multiple encounters with the law including a 2006 domestic violence protective order filed by his wife.
Clark released a self-titled album in 2005, but it did not perform well on the charts because of lack of promotion.
