Comedy Central’s Another Period created by and starring Natasha Leggero and Riki Lindhome aired this week and some fans were thrilled, while others were disappointed. Set in 1902, inspired by Downton Abbey and Keeping Up with the Kardashians, the show tackled homosexually and incest with appearances by Paget Brewster and Christina Hendricks.
Comedy Central’s Another Period put together by Natasha Leggero and Riki Lindhome is making headlines, but was it worth watching?
Talking to EW, Natasha Leggero famous for her appearances on Chelsea Lately and for announcing to the world that she is 6% Sub-Saharan African explained the concept of Another Period.
Leggero said that she submitted the ideas of a period piece and stupid reality show to her friend and comedian, Riki Lindhome, who told her to merge the two. Leggero shared:
“Riki Lindhome and I wanted to create something together, and I had come to her with these two ideas: One was a fake reality show in modern times with these really stupid girls—it was called Dumb—and then I also had this idea for a dramatic show that takes place in 1902. And Riki was like, “Well, why don’t we combine them?””
Thrilled by the Keeping Up with the Kardashians/Downton Abbey mashup, Comedy Central ordered ten episodes of Another Period with the first one airing on June 23.
In the first installment, viewers met sisters – Lillian Bellacourt played by Natasha Leggero and Beatrice Bellacourt portrayed by Riki Lindhome.
The Bellacourts live in Newport, Rhode Island in the early 1900s. The bored socialites have all in the world, lavish wardrobes, fancy parties, but they are hiding the fact that they are married to two gay men.
Another disturbing fact from the show – incest – Beatrice Bellacourt desires her brother, Frederick Bellacourt, and by the looks of things they are having an affair.
Michael Ian Black took on the role of Peepers, the head butler with a dark secret, who delivered the memorable line: “It’s my job to separate the elite from the almost rich vomit people.”
Paget Brewster was introduced as Dodo Bellacourt, the matriarch with drug issues. However, the spotlight stealer was Christina Hendricks of Mad Men, formerly Celine, a new servant with a secret, who is called Chair because the sisters forget her name.
Most people, who have watched the pilot episode agree to say that Natasha Leggero and Riki Lindhome round up an impressive cast, but they failed to deliver on jokes; they often fell flat or were repetitive.
Tibits from the first episode:
Lillian: “Blanche, put a sheet over the blind girl!”
Hamish: “Boo hoo! All of our mothers died at child birth!”
Lillian on sex with her husband: “It’s like being penetrated by a runny egg.”

If you aren't sure whether you'll like @anotherperiod or not, Christina Hendricks plays a maid named Chair. Watch it.

How was #AnotherPeriod so disappointing? Amazing cast, but not that good. Fingers crossed it gets better.

Imagine if the Kardashians were at Downton Abbey. That's what Another Period is. Genious and hilarious idea for a TV show. #cocainewine

I'm of the opinion that #AnotherPeriod is a bad show. No hyperbole. It just wasn't special and felt like it could have been much funnier.
