A car crash occurred near Orlando during a funeral procession for one of the 49 people killed at Pulse nightclub. It has been confirmed that the female diver, who caused the crash, is fine, but the two police officers she hit were injured.
On Saturday, a car crash left two injured near Orlando in the midst of a funeral procession for one of the victims of the Pulse nightclub massacre. Families and friends were getting ready to lay to rest Jean Mendez at a grave site in Kissimmee, about 20 miles south of Orlando, Florida.
Authorities have not revealed much about the accident, other than the fact that a female driver caused it. The name of the driver has not been given to the media, but it has been confirmed that she was not injured and was taken to the hospital.
Some, who have witnessed the incident, claimed that the woman appeared to be in a hurry and attempted several times to drive through the funeral procession to get to her destination. The crash led to two Osceola County motorcycle deputies being injured.
The law enforcers, who were hit by the woman, have been hospitalized, and one is said to be in stable condition, while the other is in critical condition. The Florida Highway Patrol issued a brief statement, which read:
“Earlier today, two Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies assigned to the Motor Unit were struck by a motorist who, for whatever reason, refused to wait for a passing funeral escort. The funeral procession was for a victim of the Pulse Nightclub incident. Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the traffic crash.”
It went on to say:
“Right now, our focus is on the health of our two motor deputies who are being treated at a local hospital. More information will be provided as it becomes available.”
The sheriff’s office added while they do not believe that the collision was intentional, they are investigating the matter.
