A shocking neglect caused the premature death of a 2-year-old boy in the Daleville area, Indianapolis, after his mother irresponsibly went on a drinking spree and left her son alone in her car during a scorching day.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, when the 28-year-old mother of the late toddler Jaxon Stults, Britni Nicole Wihebrink, started her day around 11 a.m. with a terrible hangover from the previous evening.
However, instead of dealing with the aftermath of her drinking, Wihebrink decided to battle her hangover with more alcohol.
According to the story that Wihebrink told an investigator, she consumed two wine cocktails, before going on with stronger alcoholic beverages such as bourbon drinks.
As a result, the mother managed to finish at least five drinks before falling asleep an hour or two in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, Jaxon was discovered in an unresponsive condition on the rear floorboard of Wihebrink’s vehicle shortly after 6 p.m.
The child was quickly rushed in an ambulance but unfortunately could not make it through and his death was declared on the way to the nearest hospital.
Following what happened authorities detained Wihebrink without the possibility of paying a bond to free herself.
Because of her irresponsible treatment of her child, the mother will be facing charges of neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
According to Zach Crouch, a Delaware Country deputy coroner, the cause of death of the toddler was probably due to the high temperatures that hit the Daleville area on Wednesday, which likely caused the young boy’s heart to stop.
A neighbor, Patricia Scott, shared, “He was a sweet little boy. Every time I saw him outside with her or his grandmother. That’s why I don’t understand how she would have left him in the car and not been outside with him.”
The woman is being held at the Delaware County Jail.
