A chocolate sculpture of Benedict Cumberbatch has some ladies melting and others shaking their heads in disbelief. Believe it or not, UKTV commissioned a 6ft chocolate statue of Benedict Cumberbatch in order to promote the third season of the hit series Sherlock. The Benedict Cumberbatch Belgian chocolate aka Chocobatch statute stands at the Westfield Stratford City shopping center.
An 88-pound Benedict Cumberbatch chocolate statue has been erected in a London shopping center just in time for Easter. The British TV channel Drama that was celebrating the launch of its UKTV on-demand service and the third season of Sherlock decided to celebrate in a big way.
The company contacted chocolatier Jen Lindsay-Clark to create a 6ft cake in the likeness of Benedict Cumberbatch. Why did the network go for a giant chocolate of Benedict Cumberbatch?
UKTV polled 2,000 women asking them who was the “dishiest actor” in the United Kingdom, and the majority of them answered Cumberbatch over stars like David Tennant, Idris Elba, Sean Bean and Damian Lewis.
Jen Lindsay-Clark explained that it took a team of 8 people more than 250 hours and 500 bars of melted chocolate to create the life-size sculpture that has been dubbed the Chocobatch.

Tim Simpson, who was one of the sculptors of the Benedict Cumberbatch statue, explained:
“The striking thing about Benedict is that he’s got quite a thin face but he’s got a large head. So trying to get that look right is quite tricky.”
Lindsay-Clark shared more about the process:
“We’re using Belgian chocolate, which is around 33 percent cocoa.[If you ate it,] it would taste like chocolate!”
On Friday, the life-size chocolate version of the Sherlock star was erected at London’s Westfield Stratford City. Some shoppers were baffled by the sculpture, while others were thrilled.
Numerous women took pictures with the Benedict Cumberbatch chocolate statue, few touched it, and others attempted to lick it. Drama general manager Adrian Wills, who fears women will break the sculpture, said:
“Hopefully he’ll make it through Easter weekend in one piece.”
