According to recent news, it has been estimated that deceased celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain’s assets and belongings amounted to only $1.21 million at the time of his death.
This may come as a surprise to many since on previous occasions it was said the late culinary icon’s net worth was well over $10 million.
Since Bourdain was still technically married to his estranged wife, Ottavia Busia-Bourdain, and he left behind an 11-year-old daughter, Ariane Busia-Bourdain, the greater part of the TV icon’s fortune will be left to the two of them.
Additionally, it became known that Bourdain’s mother, Gladys Bourdain, will also participate in taking care of his estate.
According to files about the case in the Manhattan Surrogate’s Court, the late chef’s fortune amounted to $425,000 in cash, $250,000 in personal property, $500,000 in intangible properties and $35,000 in a brokerage account.
Even though the apartment that Bourdain bought for his ex-wife back in 2014 was not mentioned in the list of properties of the deceased, he still was liable for a $1 million mortgage for an unnamed estate.
The decision for the distribution of Bourdain’s inheritance was done according to his will, which was written in 2016 when the famous chef was still with Busia.
However, not long after that, the couple broke up, and the travel expert started dating Italian actress Asia Argento.
Their relationship went on until Bourdain’s unexpected death at the age of 61. The culinary icon took his life by hanging himself. His body was discovered in the room of the French hotel where he was staying at the time.
TMZ is reporting that Bourdain created a trust outside of the will and the amount it contains has not been revealed.
It is safe to say that he was probably richer than the will seems to suggest. It is also unlikely that the content of the trust will ever be made public.
