A 2pac letter that was written in 1996, revealed that the late rapper had plans to release an album called ONE NATION in collaboration with numerous artists. In the handwritten letter, Tupac/2pac also took a shot at his nemesis, Notorious BIG.
A 2pac letter that was penned almost 20 years ago, has surfaced and will be auctioned off. In February 1996, California rapper Tupac Shakur wrote a letter to a friend named Big Lock.
The famous lyricist explained to Mr Lock that he had plans for a new album in the summer of that same year. In the letter, 2pac stated that the album would be called ONE NATION and it would feature a long list of collaborators including Greg Nice, Buckshot, Smif-n-Wessun, Outlawz, Scarface, E-40, and OutKast.
2pac’s dream to unite rappers and artists from the east, west and south coasts never came to life because he was killed in the fall of 96. The letter reads:
“I’m doing a record now called ONE NATION. It’s a group project with me, Greg Nice, Buckshot, Smif-N-Wessun, OutKast, The Outlawz, Scarface & E-40.”
Mr 2pac also took the opportunity to go after B.I.G by talking about his highly successful album, All Eyez On Me, which was released in February 1996. He mocked the New York emcee by saying:
“My record sold 5 million, so I love it like that. I’m tearin B.I.G. a new ass! :)”
Questlove has confirmed that The Roots were also approached to be involved with the LP. Fans of 2pac can view memorabilia, the handwritten letter, scribbled notes, lyrics, poems, and interview footage during the “All Eyez on Me: The Writings of Tupac Shakur” exhibit at Los Angeles’ Grammy Museum.
The website Bonhams.com has a bidding war on similar letters by 2pac and other items such as clothes worn by the iconic star. A 2pac letter can be yours for about $1,500.
Amazing!–didn’t know he could write!
